Reagan has no plans to lift grain embargo

President Reagan said in an interview published Sunday he has no immediate plans to lift the Soviet grain embargo, and controversial social issues such as abortion and school prayer should be deferred until economic recovery gets under way. Mr. Reagan, during a 40-minute interview with the Washington Post, said he entered office two months ago wanting to lift the grain embargo, as he promised he would do during the campaign.

But, he said, "I do not see how we could lift it at this time without sending the wrong signal" to the Soviets.

Reagan also said he couldn't "quarrel" with Senate majority leader Howard H. Baker Jr.'s recent comments that Congress should defer action until next year on controversial social issues such as abortion and school prayer, so those fights won't deterpassage of the Reagan economic recovery pro gram.
