Antinuclear protesters mark Pennsylvania mishap
March 30, 1981
Harrisburg, Pa.
About 7,000 antinuclear demonstrators marched on the Pennsylvania Capitol here Saturday on the second anniversary of the world's worst commercial nuclear accident at nearby Three Mile Island.
At a rally at the Capitol Building, speakers called for decommissioning of both Unit 2, the damaged reactor at Three Mile Island, and Unit 1, which was shut down for repairs at the time of the accident but remains operational. No incidents were reported at the facility itself, some 13 miles south of Harrisburg.
The march was sponsored by 11 labor unions, including the striking United Mine Workers, the United Automobile Workers, and the International Longsho remen.
