A US-Soviet summit may be far off, but a visitor to Moscow is trying to arrange a CBS-Soviet summit in the meantime. Yes, the visitor is former news anchorman Walter Cronkite -- an old hand when it comes to talking with other countries' leaders. Now he wants to meet Soviet President Leonid Brezhnev.
A prominent Soviet newspaper commentator wrote a warm tribute to Cronkite when he stepped down as CBS anchorman last month -- saying, in effect, that if American officials had Cronkite's "code of honor," superpower relations might be better.
But initial indications are not encouraging that Cronkite will be allowed to meet Brezhnev before leaving for home April 5.m
