Beirut
Muslim gunmen set churches ablaze in Sidon in retaliation for an Easter Sunday blitz on the southern Lebanese city by Christian militiamen. And Beirut was shaken awake by artillery battles, the worst in 10 days, which raged across the capital for six hours. Sixteen people were killed and 25 wounded, sources said, when militiamen in the hills above Sidon opened up an artillery bombardment of the city.
