Soviet conductor Maxim Shostakovich and his teen-age son, Dmitri, who defected to the West nearly two weeks ago, renounced their Soviet citizenship and said they would become US citizens.
Mr. Shostakovich, son of the late composer Dmitri Shostakovich, sent his Soviet passport and that of his son to Soviet Ambassador Anatoly Dobrynin. He then appeared before reporters here and announced through an interpreter:
"This step of ours is in no way an indication that we renoun ce our true devotion to our people."
