Britain asks EC to help with $1 billion Ulster aid

Britain has requested European Community aid toward a possible $1 billion program to improve social and industrial conditions in Belfast. The proposals include spending $485 million to improve homes, $285 million on transportation projects, and $130 million to develop industry in the capital of Northern Ireland.

The EC Commission will review the program and decide how large a contribution it could make toward it from funds earmarked for social and regional development a nd from European investment bank loans.
