US says world gain crop will set record in 1981-82

World grain production in the coming crop season will set a record and result in replenished reserves after two years of declines, the Agriculture Department said. In its first estimate for the new crop season that begins July 1, the department put world grain output at 1.5 billion tons, up 5 percent from the present year and well above the previous high of 1.46 billion tons set three years ago. But it also said world grain supplies could remain tight if unfavourable weat her suddenly developed in major growing countries.
