India's save-the-tiger drive to add millions in funding

Investment in India's project to save tigers from extinction will be increased from $5 million to $12.4 million in the next few years, the project's steering committee reports.

"Project Tiger" was launched by the government and wildlife organizations in 1973, and 11 special reserves were created in various parts of the country. The number of tigers in the wild and the reserves has risen from 1,844 in 1972 to 3, 015.
