Ruling delayed on a ban of baseball owners' plan

June 9, 1981

A federal judge has delayed a ruling on a request for an injunction by the National Labor Relations Board that would wipe out a free-agent compensation plan by major league baseball owners and thus prevent a strike by the players. The ruling had been expected Monday, but will be made "later this week."

The board asked for the injunction after the Players Association filed an unfair-labor-practice charge against the owners.
