Bonn formally approves Burns as US ambassador

West Germany has formally approved the appointment of Arthur F. Burns as US ambassador to Bonn. He succeeds Walter J. Stoessel, who left in January to take a different Reagan administration post.

Mr. Burns, chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank from 1950 to 1978, was nominated last month, and West Germany welcomed the appointment then. A spokesman said Chancellor Helmut Schmidt values Mr. Burns as one of America's most distinguished public figures, and the appointment was a sign of the importance President Reagan gave to German-American relations and political cooperation between the two countries.
