The People's Revolutionary Government of Grenada has banned the printing of newspapers for a year. Prime Minister Maurice Bishop said the ban would last until his government formed a new media policy. The ban was imposed after the closure of the independent newspaper, the Grenadian Voice. The national-security secretary's office accused Voice owners of issuing five counterrevolutionary pamphlets during the last six months. The office said the group was "closely linked to the CIA" and that publication of the Voice was part of a s trategy to disrupt the economy.
