Coffee prices are headed down. So much coffee is being produced that a record 92.4 million bag harvest is expected for the 1981-82 season. Brazil leads the way, but crop yields in Mexico, Honduras, the Dominican Republican, and Haiti also are expected to be much higher. The increase results in some measure from new, high-yielding varieties of coffee trees planted to take advantage of high coffee prices.

"The increase is most dramatic in Brazil where large-scale plantings made after the 1975 frost are now reaching peak productivity," the US Department of Agriculture's foreign agricult ural service says.m
