About 30,000 defective bicycle forks on Viscount brand 10-speed bicycles are being recalled by the Yamaha International Corporation, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced.
"Fracture of the fork may occur unexpectedly and cause loss of control or separation of the front wheel from the bicycle with a possibility of personal injury," a commission spokesman said.
Some 30 complaints about the defective cast aluminum part have been received by Yamaha since the bikes were introduced. Twelve of the cases have involved injuries. The bikes were distributed from September 1974 to Oc tober 1977.
