The West German newsmagazine Der Spiegel reports that Polish unrest is spreading to East Germany, the Soviet Union's staunchest ally. Encouraged by the way Poles stood up to their communist government, East Germans have gone on strike for better working conditions in sections of some plants; distributed illegal leaflets calling for support of the Polish S olidarity Union; and clashed with police in several cities.
