Several politicians ask Reagan to help in Ulster

Seventeen US congressmen and the governor of New York urged President Reagan to play an active role in resolving the hunger strikes in Northern Ireland. A letter signed by Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, New York Gov. Hugh L. Carey, and House Speaker Thomas P. O'Neill, among others, asked for an immediate meeting with Mr. Reagan "to discuss a role for the United States in seeking the earliest possible settlement of the cr isis, before any further deaths occur."
