Bangkok, Thailand
Former Prime Minister Kriangsak Chomanan emerged from the political wilderness with a dramatic comeback by winning a landslide election to a parliamentary seat at Muang Roi Et, in northeast Thailand. The return of the retired general, who stepped down in February 1980 amid widespread economic and political dissatisfaction, could lead to a new alignment of parliamentary forces opposed to the Army-dominated governme nt of Prime Minister Prem Tinsulanonda.
