Viets said to be holding former camp detainees

Vietnamese authorities have begun detaining people previously released from "reeducation" camps, a Hanoi- based Western diplomat reports. The detentions were apparently in response to increased antigovernment guerrilla activity in which disgruntled soldiers of the former South Vietnamese Army were joining insurgent tribesmen, the sources said. No official figures of the number of people undergoing reeducation in Vietnam have been made public, but estimates range from 50, 000 to 200,000.
