What's in a line? Plenty, if it divides Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia from the USSR. Baltic nationals in the US want every official US map of the Soviet Union to include a note that their small countries, swallowed by the Soviets during World War II, are not officially recognized as part of the USSR. The notation already goes on many official maps, but government mapmakers sometimes slip, concedes a State Department spokesman.
A new congressional Ad Hoc Committee on the Baltic States and Ukraine plans to meet with map officials to remind them to include the disclaimer.m
