US plans a tougher look to keep out horsemeat

Agriculture Secretary John Block announced tougher testing and inspection procedures to make certain that Australian horsemeat and kangaroo meat are not substituted for Us imports of hamburger beef.
The new rules also call for spot checking of meat imported from other nations to keep mislabeled, uninspected, or adulterated meat from entering the country.
The new rules were sparked by the recent discovery that some horsemeat, labeled as beef, was shipped from an Australian plant to a San Diego processing plant that produces beef patties and taco filling for Jack-in-the-Box fast-food restaurants.
