Rise in foreign holdings by US industry slips a bit

August 26, 1981

US companies increased their direct foreign holdings by 14.3 percent last year compared with 1979, the Commerce Department reports. It says foreign holdings rose $26.7 billion, to $213.5 billion -- slightly less than the 14.8 percent increase in 1979. About 75 percent of the holdings were in developed countries, but investment in developing nations also grew.
