In Montreal, publicity is starting to build for catcher GAry Carter as the National League's Most Valuable Player. Although Carter is supposed to be playing with a leg injury, opposing pitchers can't seem to get him out when it counts.

During the Expo's recent four-game winning streak, Gary had three homers and 12 RBIs. Since coming back from a collision at home plate that sidelined him for three games, he has hit almost .500.

Expo outfielder Tim Raines also made headlines last week by stealing six bases, raising his major league-leading total to 61 and breaking the rookie record of 56 set by San Diego's Gene Richards in 1977.
