Qaddafi threatens US with radical attacks

Declaring a "holy war" on the United States, Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi threatened to attack American nuclear bases and risk "nuclear catastrophe" in a ranting three-hour speech marking the 12th anniversary of his rule.

As thousands of Soviet-built tanks paraded past crowds in Tripoli in a show of military force, Colonel Qaddafi criticized the downing of two Libyan jet fighters by US planes. He said: "If the United States attacks us in the Gulf of Sidra, we will attack their rockets and nuclear bases even if that caused a nuclear catastrophe -- and the Americans will be responsible. . ."
