Confidence of US consumers dips

Consumer confidence in the US economy, which has climbed for five consecutive months, fell slightly in August, the Conference Board reports. Its consumer confidence index, using 1969-70 as 100, closed at 80.9 in August , down from 82.1 in July. The buying-plans index, however, moved up from 83.5 to 89.4.
