Will the Medfly continue to bug Jerry Brown? Admittedly, the California governor faces other, more serious obstacles in his bid to win a US Senate seat next year. Still, the reappearance of the agricultural pest could come with ironic timing. The Medfly, which dislikes cool weather and soon will retreat into the ground (in its pupae stage), should begin to show itself again around June, meaning it may not be much of an issue in the June 2 California primary.
But if California's Medfly eradication forces do not land a knockout blow next spring, and infestation reaches the fertile San Joaquin Valley, the nomination might be worth about as much to the governor as a wormy apple.m
