Carter out of his corner with 1-2 punch at Reagan

Jimmy Carter ended his silence about President Reagan with a double blast -- accusing him of being an inadequate peacemaker in the Middle East and dispenser of suffering and disillusionment in the United States.

At a news conference shortly before he met with the President Tuesday, Mr. Carter said the new administration places too much stress on military spending and that slashed-back budget policies at home mean gloom by poor Americans.

While he supported the President's proposal to sell advanced radar planes and other military equipment to Saudi arabia, Carter called the B-1 bomber, which he killed and Reagan resurgrounds the manned bomber could not pentetrate Soviet defenses.
