Did organized labor's "solidarity day" in Washington sway Congress? The AFL-CIO says yes. Ray Denison, the federation's legislative director, cites what ha calls three recent victories for working people as evidence of a changing mood in Congress: the House's overwhelming passage of a bill to extend the Voting Rights Act; its approval of funds for the departments of Labor, Education, and Health and human Services without cuts sought by the Reagan administration, and its rejection of efforts ot reduce coverage of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

Afl-CIO president Lane Kirkland now is talking of further mass demonstrations , referring to the recent event as "solidarity day 1."m
