The Reagan administration may be pushing to limit the Freedom of Information Act, but that hasn't stopped the President's own campaign committee from using the act to its advantage.

The Reagan-Bush Committee is trying to head off the Federal Election Commission's effort to dun the committee for about $1.5 million in election law violations last year. When the FEC refused to give up internal documents on its campaign audit, the campaign committee asked a federal judge for an injunction. Meanwhile, it has continued to seek FEC documents under the Freedom of Information Act.

Ironically, Reagan administration officials (in recent testimony on proposed changes to the act) have criticized the efforts of others to thwart official investigations by similarly trying to root out government information.
