Pitch for worker sacrifice at GM draws union scowl

United Automobile Workers leaders are urging members to boycott General Motors Corporation's ''Road to Survival'' movies designed to persuade workers to give up benefits for the sake of GM's financial health.

But company officials say they will go ahead with plans for an extensive pitch in advance of next year's contract talks.

Plant managers will hold meetings with workers on company time to show the films and then hold question-and-answer sessions afterward. But union leaders advised members to skip the screenings, calling the film a ''perversion of the contract'' because, they said, it tries to get the workers to see the bargaining just from GM's point of view.
