Sen. Harrison A. Williams Jr. (D) of New Jersey says he will use the delay of his Senate trial to prepare evidence he says will show that the FBI manufactured its Abscam case against him.
After Senate leaders announced Tuesday the proceedings were postponed until January, Mr. Williams told reporters he can avoid expulsion if his colleagues believe government misconduct led to his Abscam bribery conviction. Williams and six House members have been convicted on bribery and other federal charges.
