Court in Virginia confirms missing Filipino's marriage
Washington
A Filipino who vanished last week under mysterious circumstances secretly married President Ferdinand Marcos's eldest daughter last month in Arlington, Va., court records show.
Tomas Manotoc, a professional basketball coach, married Imelda Marcos Dec. 4 and disappeared Dec. 29 after meeting her for dinner, according to reports from Manila.
His family, which has a history of political opposition to Mr. Marcos, says the President opposed the marriage and it accused him of being responsible for Mr. Manotoc's disappearance. Mr. Marcos denies any part in it.
In Manila, a ransom note demanding $2.5 million was delivered Saturday to Manotoc's family, who denounced it as a fake. They said presidential security guards arrived to inquire about the note an hour before it was delivered.
