'You deserve a break'- jail saves on meals
January 5, 1982
Selma, Ala.
The jail kitchen in Selma was closed last summer, so most of the prison meals since then have come from a fast-food outlet and a local eatery. And officials say it's saving the city money.
Police Chief Jack Hughes says the catering saves the cost of labor preparing the food as well as maintenance of kitchen facilities. He claims it will save the city almost $6,000 a year.
