Democrats, liberals, and civil rights workers this weekend blasted an administration decision to permit tax-exempt status for church-run schools that refuse to admit blacks. Sen. Gary Hart (D) of Colorado said he will ask Congress to intervene.
Labeling the decision ''a retreat to a sad era of racial injustice in our nation's h)-Oy which most Americans have worked to put behind them,'' Senator Hart said he will introduce legislation to maintain the policy of denying tax-exempt status to private schools that discriminate racially.
