Soldiers loyal to the Libyan strong man, Col. Muammar Qaddafi, aided by Soviet and other East bloc troops, crushed a violent coup attempt in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi last week, the Sudan's official news agency, SUNA, said Saturday.
In a dispatch from Tunis quoting travelers from Benghazi, SUNA said the coup attempt left a ''large number'' of people dead on both sides, and hundreds were arrested.
