Keep it simple
January 22, 1982
Linguistic mentors well advise That simple phrasing is for the wise. Though filigreed tropes seem gay and vernal, It's plainer locutions that prove diurnal; What quiddity ever can be excuse For letting egregrious ambivalence loose? The insalubrious indirection Becomes piacular defection, Results in otiosity, Flamboyance, and preciosity. Too temerarious conversation Degenerates to tergiversation. One should by no means, then, disdain To keep his verbal amenities plain; If a word has too much flavor to it, The meticulous writer should eschew it.
