Advertising deluge continues

January 26, 1982

Rising postal rates aren't keeping advertisers from flooding residential mailboxes, says Advertising Age.

In 1980 it cost advertisers $9.9 billion to mail their sales pitches to American homes. This compares with $2.8 billion 10 years ago, an increase of more than 250 percent.

Meanwhile, the cost of third-class postage rose from 3.8 cents an ounce to 10 .4 cents, a jump of over 170 percent.
