British business freed after 17 months in Iran
February 3, 1982
Iran released British businessman Andrew Pyke last Thursday after holding him without charges for 17 months, British officials said.
But another Briton, held without charges since last April, and an American taken into custody in March 1980 are still prisoners in Tehran. There is no indication when they will be released.
In the heat of anti-Western sentiment preceding the takeover of the US Embassy in Tehran, Mr. Pyke was accused of spying.
