Libyan borde to stay closed, Egypt says

Egypt said Tuesday its border with Libya would remain closed despite signs that the two countries might be easing frontier restrictions.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry had said the border, closed for the past three years, was being opened for authorized groups of Egyptians working in Libya to return home for vacations.

But a Cabinet spokesman later said the border was only opened briefly to allow a group of teachers to cross into Egypt because of its ''special circumstances.''
