February 3, 1982
Israel plans to establish 16 military outposts in the occupied West Bank and Golan Heights which might eventually be converted into civilian settlements, according to the Jewish Agency, a nongovernment agency that helps establish new Jewish communities.
The agency said the outposts were ordered by Defense Minister Ariel Sharon, a champion of Jewish settlement in occupied Arab territory. Ministry officials were not available for comment.
