All-Star rehash

Brightening up last weekend's post-Super Bowl lull were three All-Star games, all of which deserve mention for one reason or another. That the National Football League's Pro Bowl was played in Honolulu on the same afternoon as basketball's All-Star contest is interesting in its own right, considering the NBA season is half over.

The American Conference won the Pro Bowl 16-13 for the first time in five years, turning the tables on the National Conference, which produced a rare Super Bowl winner in San Francisco.

Two fowls enlivened the NBA game. Larry Bird earned MVP honors with a flurry of points that brought his East squad a 120-118 victory, and Ted Giannoulas, ''The Chicken,'' left 'em laughing with his courtside comedy.

After the NBA stars practiced at the Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey on Saturday, 5,000 fans stayed around to watch the Continental Basketball Association All-Star Game. There was no admission. The contest was aired on cable TV the next day, and the CBA apparently figured it would look and sound better to have as many people in the stands as possible.
