Imagine, a tennis tournament that awards money to non-qualifiers. That's exactly what the US Open will do this summer, when it becomes the first major event to pay players in the qualifying rounds. Just for competing in the preliminary to the world's richest tournament, a player is guaranteed $500. Second-round losers receiver $600 and third-round losers $800. Third-round winners qualify for the main draw.
