Former Iranian Foreign Minister Sadeq Ghotbzadeh, arrested in Tehran April 7, has been charged with plotting to kill revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and seize power. Mr. Ghotbzadeh was foreign minister during the November 1979 seizure of US hostages in the American Embassy in Tehran. He opposed the move, which contributed to his eventual ouster from Iranian politics. He is likely to face a firing squad if found guilty.
