New Salvadoran president may be named this week

El Salvador's new 60-member constituent assembly was scheduled to convene for the first time Monday, and may appoint a president by the end of the week, ending the two-year rule of the military-Christian Democratic junta. Jose Antonio Rodriguez Porth, a Republican Alliance official, has been pegged by top rightists as the person most likely to be named president.
