Mexican security official held on auto theft charge

Miguel Nassar Haro, former chief of Mexico's national security police, was arrested by federal authorities on charges of transportation of stolen vehicles in a $30 million international car theft operation. Mr. Haro, who came to the United States to file an $11-million libel lawsuit against Time magazine for linking him to the car-theft operation, voluntarily testified before a grand jury on the auto theft charges.

On April 5, President Reagan fired US attorney for San Diego William Kennedy for charging that the Justice Department, at the request of the Central Intelligence Agency, was blocking his attempt to prosecute Mr. Nassar because he had been a key CIA informant on Mexican and Central American affairs.
