Although the Altona Fish Market is one of Hamburg's most picturesque sights, it's too rarely seen by tourists. Following a tradition that goes back to 1703 when a magisterial decree permitted Hamburg's fishermen to sell their catch on Sunday mornings, the market is open only from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Located west of the city's center, between St. Paul Landungsbrucken and Grosse Elbestrasse, the market sells not only fresh fish but fruit, flowers, and antiques.

The cycling is mostly along country lanes through Switzerland and France, including such well-known resorts as Geneva, Lausanne, Montreux, and Evian-les-Bains. Yvoire, a medieval French town is a highlight of the tour, as is Chillon Castle. The tour also crosses the Rhone Delta, through one of Switzerland's important nature reserves.

Participants are given the best Swiss-made bicycles from the Cilo factory in Lausanne, which are adjusted to each rider.
