Two Soviet cosmonauts launched a communications satellite from their Salyut 7 orbiting space station, the Soviet news agency Tass said. The launching of the 62-pound satellite gave the Soviet Union a jump of at least five months over plans to launch satellites from the space shuttle Columbia. Tass said the satellite's radio transmission will be monitored by researchers in other communist countries
