Nonaligned group eases a resolve on Falklands

Nonaligned foreign ministers meeting in Havana will be presented with a toned-down draft declaration on the Falklands dispute, following pressure from Caribbean nations, a Latin American diplomat said. Delegates will also hear a speech from Argentine Foreign Minister Nicanor Costa Mendez.
The diplomat, speaking during the first day of a three-day nonaligned ministerial meeting here, said Jamaica and Guyana had objected to strong condemnation of Britain and the United States in the original Cuban draft.
Latin American and Caribbean representatives had agreed to moderate the tone of the original draft at a private meeting on the sidelines of the conference, the diplomat added.
