British field ploy: dial 'A' for attack

An 85-cent call from a phone booth near Port Stanley led to Britain's capture of the strategic Fitzroy and Bluff Cove settlements, dispatches from the Falkland Islands said Wednesday. Brig. Tony Wilson inserted a coin and dialed a Fitzroy number. Reg Binney, a farmer, answered.

''Are there any Argentines there-'' the brigadier asked.

''No, they're all out on patrol,'' Mr. Binney answered.

''In that case I think we'll come and join you,'' the officer said.

''You'll be very welcome,'' came the reply.
