Nicaragua claims US ship sailed too close to coast
June 10, 1982
Managua, Nicaragua
Nicaragua protested to the United States, saying a US frigate had sailed within three miles of its Pacific coastline yesterday. The Foreign Ministry, in a note to Secretary of State Alexander M. Haig Jr., said such acts appeared to mean that dialogue between the two countries had been postponed indefinitely.
Nicaragua and the US are at odds over the Central American country's alleged aid to leftist guerrillas in El Salvador.
