South African security police arrested more than 200 people at a memorial service held in the black satellite city of Soweto for a black trade union leader, authorities said.
Police said the arrrests were made at a service held by the Young Women's Christian Association to honor Joe Mavi, chief of the Johannesburg-based black Municipal Workers Union, who was killed in a car crash June 8.
