Hatch tells White House Donovan should resign
June 17, 1982
Washington
Senate Labor Committee chairman Orrin Hatch (R) of Utah advised the White House to seek the resignation of Labor Secretary Raymond Donovan, who is embroiled in controversy over alleged mob ties, an aide said.
In a call to the White House, Mr. Hatch said Mr. Donovan cannot escape unscathed from a special prosecutor's investigation. Senator Hatch's move followed the murder of a witness questioned as part of the Donovan probe and new disclosures concerning the amount of information withheld from the Senate committee by the FBI during the Donovan hearings last year. The White House replied there are no plans to ask Mr. Donovan to step aside.
